The trade minister expressed his frustration with claims made during the Brexit campaign that rejoining the EU would instantly resolve Britain's issues. However he emphasized that joining again immediately wouldn't automatically fix these problems.

Former health minister Wes Streeting, who left Starmer's government last month and may run for leadership in the future, has suggested that one day the UK might consider re-entering the EU.
