The number of suspected Ebola cases has decreased significantly following several dismissals by the World Health Organization. The Democratic Republic of Congo has officially reported a total of 321 confirmed cases and 48 fatalities.

According to the World Health Organization's latest update, the Democratic Republic of Congo outbreak has seen a significant decrease in suspected Ebola cases, with only 116 currently under scrutiny, down from previous numbers, following thorough investigations that cleared hundreds of initial suspicions.

According to the World Health Organization, a total of 48 fatalities have occurred, while six individuals have successfully regained their health in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Latest figures from the WHO reveal that these developments took place on Monday.

In recent times, Uganda has reported nine verified Ebola cases and one linked fatality, according to Christian Lindmeier, a spokesperson for the WHO, who spoke with journalists in Geneva. Subsequently, Uganda's health department announced an additional six new Ebola infections, elevating the total number of confirmed cases within the country to 15 as of Tuesday. These latest cases were identified among individuals connected to previously confirmed cases, per a statement from the ministry on its X platform.

According to the WHO's latest assessment, a total of 116 suspected Ebola cases have been reported. The Democratic Republic of Congo is currently dealing with a significant outbreak, with 906 suspected cases identified, including 223 suspected deaths under investigation. Meanwhile, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention Director-General Jean Kaseya highlighted the severity of the situation in an op-ed published on Sunday, stating that over 1,100 suspected cases are being investigated.

The recent statistics indicate a substantial decrease in reported cases, which can be attributed to the reevaluation of existing data by investigators like Lindmeier.

According to Lindmeier, individuals previously suspected of having a specific condition were found to be suffering from alternative health issues or mere fever with no further complications. The number of cases will likely vary over time due to ongoing testing procedures.

Individuals under investigation encompass those identified through surveillance efforts and those presenting symptoms at healthcare facilities, according to the official's clarification. Verified cases are limited to individuals testing positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola.

The outbreak's testing process has faced significant hurdles due to the initial inadequacy of commonly used Ebola tests, which failed to identify the Bundibugyo strain, a virus without an approved vaccine, hampering capacity efforts.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website on the US lists 116 suspected cases. According to the latest update from the DRC Ministry of Health, as of May 29, suspect case counts were revised downward by eliminating confirmed non-cases and deaths awaiting further investigation.

A public health emergency was declared by the World Health Organization following the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention's announcement of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola outbreak in Congo on May 15, marking the country's 17th Ebola outbreak.
