Jenny Holl, a key figure in Unwin's past triumphs at the Paralympics in Tokyo and Paris, is now set to compete for Scotland in Glasgow, necessitating new support from co-pilot Sylvia Misztal.

Adapting to a new riding partner has been the focus of our training, and I'm optimistic about our chances of success.

GB's para-cyclists typically train together as a unified unit, but due to the current circumstances, they must now divide into separate teams with familiar faces now representing rival squads instead of their usual teammates.

The groundwork for the upcoming event is progressing smoothly, with the competition kicking off on 23 July, as Unwin highlights the crucial role a skilled co-pilot plays in achieving success.

Riding at the front of a tandem requires an exceptional combination of skills, where two individuals must harmoniously generate maximum power in perfect synchrony, necessitating top-tier athleticism from both partners.

Operating a tandem bicycle requires proficiency in navigating its unique dynamics. Its extended length and doubled weight create distinct handling characteristics compared to a standard solo bike. Mastering these nuances demands a high level of skill and adaptability from the pilot.

Effective communication between teammates is crucial for success in para-cycling events.

Para-cyclist Unwin, alongside Holl, secured Great Britain's third gold medal.

In recent years, Unwin and Holl have forged an exceptional bond as part of Team GB, securing a prestigious B Gold medal in the Road Race tandem at Paris, alongside notable performances in individual pursuit and time trials.

In Tokyo three years prior, they had secured a silver medal in tandem B road racing.

Para-cyclist Unwin has achieved impressive back-to-back wins at the World Championships in 2021 and 2022, complemented by individual pursuit titles in 2022, 2023, and 2025, with additional gold medals secured in time trials and sprints in 2023.

Unwin's experience level belies her impressive-looking trophy collection, which takes on an added luster given her relatively recent introduction to tandem cycling in August 2020.

Following a talent search targeting visually-impaired female athletes, the 31-year-old para-cyclist has made significant progress since joining the initiative.

Unwin's confirmation of her Glasgow-bound spot is still sinking she admitted freely on this occasion.

Having competed in several major events, I'm hoping to maintain this momentum. Cycling wasn't always my focus; I picked it up later than most, with no initial ambitions to be an elite athlete as a youngster.

A seasoned co-pilot was assigned to Unwin for the Tokyo games, and their partnership clicked into place seamlessly.
