Breel Embolo's trip to the US remains uncertain following his recent visit to the U.S. Embassy in Bern, where he submitted a visa application as part of the necessary clearance procedures for travel to the United States.

Switzerland's Embolo stayed behind in Europe, as a last-minute review of his ESTA travel authorization delayed his US-bound trip by mere hours on that same Tuesday morning.

The Federation announced that their visa application has been flagged for expedited processing, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.

A pending legal matter has its roots in a 2018 incident in Basel, where Embolo faced consequences for his actions. In 2023, he was found guilty of issuing several threats, with the court imposing a suspended penalty.

US authorities have recently sought access to court records related to the matter, which became a legally enforceable decision in early 2024.

The federation clarified that no physical violence was part of the incident, addressing a key concern raised by the Embassy.

Swiss authorities reported that prior to the flight, US officials unexpectedly sought further verification for every ESTA applicant, including Embolo, about 2.5 hours before takeoff was scheduled.

Misrepresenting past arrests or convictions can result in an ESTA denial, revocation, or even a lifelong ban from entering the US. An approved ESTA doesn't ensure automatic entry into the country. Those barred from the VWP due to criminal history or misrepresentation must submit a visa application instead.

According to a Swiss team spokesperson, Embolo's past US travel history is notable, having visited the country in June 2025 with his national team for games against Mexico and the United States without any complications arising.
