President Donald Trump expressed his intention to appoint Todd Blanche as the long-term head of the US Department of Justice, despite controversy surrounding his tenure as acting Attorney General and criticism from some Republican lawmakers recently.

A nomination for Attorney General has yet to be announced by President Trump, pending Senate approval.

Blanche's temporary tenure as acting Attorney General is nearing its end, with an expected expiration date sometime around late October. However this deadline may be pushed back if Donald Trump chooses to nominate Blanche or another candidate for the role, requiring Senate approval. The Republican majority in the Senate holds a slim 53-47 advantage.

06Trump's Funding Plan Faces Backlash

Republican senators are criticizing Blanche's proposal, which was met with resistance from within the White House itself, particularly regarding an $1.8 billion allocation for those affected by government abuse claims.

Tuesday saw Blanche announce that the Department of Justice would abandon its proposal, prompting intense bipartisan criticism that jeopardized a $72 billion allocation for Trump's immigration enforcement initiative.

A Justice Department official clarified that Blanche was not involved in negotiations surrounding the fund established through a $10 billion lawsuit filed by Trump against the Internal Revenue Service. Blanche, however, spearheaded the fund's creation and initially justified its necessity as rectifying historical grievances.

Critics have labeled the settlement a "slush fund" designed to reward Trump's allies, despite its stated goal of compensating alleged victims of mistreatment by Democrats and bureaucrats, not Republicans. Those found guilty in connection with the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol attack may also be eligible for payments.

12Trump Reiterates Abandoned AG Nomination

In a recent podcast conversation, Trump strongly supported the initiative.

He expressed pride in granting pardons to individuals who were severely impacted by the previous administration's actions. He believes those individuals are entitled to compensation due to the government's unfair treatment.

Trump's supporters have praised Blanche for her actions as acting attorney general since April, particularly in pursuing charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center and former FBI Director James Comey, a frequent critic of the President.

The President expressed satisfaction with the current tempo of the Justice Department's operations, surpassing his initial expectations significantly.

Pam Bondi's departure from the AG position was a direct result of Trump's growing discontent with the slow pace of investigations targeting individuals he deemed adversaries. The DOJ's transformation under Blanche's leadership is now firmly entrenched in line with Trump's distinct vision for the department.
