Inspired by a popular TV show, "Schmigadoon!" cleverly satirizes classic Golden Age Broadway productions, transporting a contemporary pair to an enchanting musical realm.

Bess Wohl's "Liberation" made significant strides in 2026 when it received the Pulitzer Prize for drama, a notable achievement that also marked the playwright as the fourth female winner of the Tony Award for best play since 2009.

The Broadway Awards recognized "Ragtime" as the top musical winner, outshining "Cats: The Jellicle Ball". This sweeping narrative weaves together the lives of Black, immigrant, and upper-class white individuals, examining themes of racial identity, social hierarchy, and the elusive American Dream circa 1900. Caissie Levy and Joshua Henry took home top acting honors for their performances in "Ragtime".

Lithgow's portrayal of Roald Dahl in "Giant" highlighted the author's struggles with fallout from antisemitic remarks, a controversy that weighed heavily on his decision to apologize or risk tarnishing his reputation. Notably, this marked Lithgow's third Tony Award win, following his initial victory 53 years prior for his debut in "The Changing Room."

The creative team behind "Giant" had to constantly question the motivations of its protagonist, wondering why he was driven by such dark impulses. Antisemitism and cruelty are unfortunately pervasive issues we face today, making this musical's exploration all the more significant and impactful.

Lesley Manville took home the award for Best Lead Actress in a Play, her portrayal of Jocasta in Oedipus earning critical acclaim under Robert Icke's direction.

Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman" claimed the top prize for revival of a play, with Joe Mantello's masterful direction earning him best direction of a play honors. Laurie Metcalf, a three-time Tony Award winner, took home featured actress in a play for her powerful portrayal as Linda Loman. Nathan Lane rounds out the cast in this iconic production.

14Broadway Sets New High Mark.

A record-breaking Broadway season has come to a close, with this year's awards ceremony marking the culmination of a highly successful period that yielded $1.91 billion in ticket sales.

At Radio City Music Hall, Pop sensation Pink kicked off the ceremony with an electrifying performance, blending "Lady Marmalade" with a fresh Broadway twist, showcasing the talented casts of all nominated musicals.

Lea Michele's rendition of "We don't do it for the awards" stood out among Easter eggs, while Dylan Mulvaney's performance of "Protect the dolls" also made an impact. The omission of Michele from award nominations this season is notable, especially given her starring role in the revival "Chess".

Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats" was reimagined in a bold new way by directors Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch, who took creative liberties with the classic musical.

Shoshana Bean claimed her first award for "The Lost Boys," a theatrical take on the 1987 cult classic, where two brothers unwittingly relocate to a California coastal community overrun by blood-sucking creatures. Her victory marked a milestone in her career, following two previous nominations.

Alden Ehrenreich took home top honors for his performance in "Becky Shaw," earning him the award for best featured actor in a play. Meanwhile, Ali Louis Bourzgui's captivating portrayal of a lead vampire earned him the prize for best featured actor in a musical.

Anniversary tributes at the ceremony included notable productions like "Chicago," "The Book of Mormon."

Pink took center stage for a special tribute to the iconic musical, with Queen Latifah introducing the event that marked its 30-year milestone.

For its milestone 15th anniversary, the original cast of "The Book of Mormon" took center stage, while Rachel Zegler paid tribute to a classic with her rendition of "What I Did for Love" from "A Chorus Line," marking an impressive 50 years since its premiere. Leslie Odom Jr.'s powerful performance of "Without You" from "Rent" honored the show's enduring legacy at 30 years old, during the In Memoriam segment.

Qween Jean's preshow triumph marked a milestone as she took home the award for best costume design in a musical, beating out stiff competition with "Cats: The Jellicle Ball." This achievement made her the first openly transgender person to receive a Tony Award, according to the show's publicist.
