Claude has its loyal fans, yet usability issues persist. Repetitive prompting became a daily struggle as I repeatedly entered identical commands to elicit desired responses from the AI. Fortunately, a straightforward fix had been implemented, only for Claude to subsequently eliminate the very feature that made it workable.

Historically, AI chatbots have struggled with providing accurate responses when faced with novel or untrained queries. Their limitations stem from a reliance on pre-existing knowledge, leaving them unable to venture beyond the scope of their initial data sets and training materials.

Chatbots often rely on outdated information due to fixed training data cutoffs. This limitation can render them ineffective in responding to inquiries about recent events or developments past November 2022.

The advent of web-searching capabilities in chatbots has significantly reduced the issue at hand. Nonetheless, Claude's propensity for relying on outdated information from its training data often leads to responses that are either obsolete or simply uninformative.

Claude's inability to provide accurate solutions was a recurring issue for me. In situations where I needed expert assistance, such as troubleshooting complex smart home automation issues, Claude's responses were often circular and unhelpful. But whenever I asked Claude to verify the solution online, it would surprisingly yield an effective answer that should have been found sooner, typically within twenty minutes of my initial query.

The repeated requests to Claude for fact-checking were becoming increasingly frustrating, prompting the search for an alternative solution that would streamline the process.

Using Claude's style feature resolved my issue efficiently. The purpose of these pre-defined styles is to determine how Claude responds, encompassing options like Concise, Explanatory and Formal. Additionally, users can craft their own bespoke styles, either by having Claude emulate their writing style or by providing custom guidelines for the style.

By implementing a tailored style, I incorporated prompts that directed Claude to verify information whenever it was uncertain or potentially outdated. This approach yielded impressive results, as I found myself rarely needing to instruct Claude to research further. To streamline interactions, I could easily activate this style in conversations where accuracy was paramount, while deactivating it for other discussions with Claude.

The writing landscape is undergoing a significant shift as Anthropic eliminates the styles feature from Claude, effectively rendering my customized styles obsolete in their current format.

Styles offered more flexibility, allowing me to trigger a single action that applied universally across conversations. In contrast, with skills, Claude determines whether to utilize the skill or not on an individual basis.

I utilized the /skill-creator prompt to instruct Claude in crafting a new skill that would prompt him to verify online sources when uncertain or outdated info is involved. The skill was successfully created by Claude, allowing me to easily save and implement it with minimal effort required.

With the skill now in place, I can effortlessly activate it by prefacing my prompts with "/web-verify". This enables Claude to seamlessly utilize its own web-verify tool, initiating online searches as needed, all without requiring a separate request from me.

Claude's performance has shown considerable improvement in recent interactions, yet there are instances where he disregards web-verify and responds directly. This phenomenon occurs less frequently now than before, when the skill was not utilized. The customized style proved more effective, as it applied instructions uniformly across all chat prompts. Nevertheless, incorporating the skill still yields noticeable enhancements.

Frustration mounted as I found myself repeatedly asking Claude to verify facts, only for it to fall short. Fortunately, my tailored approach finally resolved this issue, albeit temporarily, as newer styles are now taking its place. Although not as effective as the original style, my custom skill still offers a significant upgrade over Claude's standard functionality.
